Volunteers from Microsoft spruce up our edible growing space

Our Sale West recently welcomed a team from Microsoft for a volunteer day at our growing space in Sale West Woods.

The seven-member team helped top-up our raised beds with compost and also weeded around our fruit bushes. The day’s jobs included barrowing the compost donated by Recycle for Greater Manchester, and clearing the nettles, docks and chickweed surrounding the gooseberry and currant bushes.

Being able to access the fruit bushes makes it easier to harvest the fruit, which, along with other fruit grown around the Sale West Community Centre, is destined for a Community Crumble, to be made in the Autumn by work experience students of Manor Academy, and distributed to local residents who are financially and socially isolated.

Joanna Eyden, Project Manager at Our Sale West, said: “The team’s attitude was positive and focussed. Over four hours, they diligently completed the tasks we set for them. Our Sale West would like to thank Thom, Mike, Jo, Joe, Helen, Calvin and Cassie for their efforts – thanks also to GMET, FOVPS and TCV for their support with our activities.”

The day was supported by The Conversation Volunteers North West, Greater Manchester Environment Trust and Friends of Victoria Park Stretford.

We offer a range of (CSR) volunteer opportunities for businesses and other organisations. If you’d like to learn more, please contact Our Sale West by email: enquiries@oursalwest.co.uk or phone: 0161 973 3778.
